My Project: Part 1 – What type of program?

The time has come for me to pick up a new project. It’s been several years since I started YaBB SE/SMF and I’ve been pretty bored as of late and dying for something new to start up and work those creative juices.

I haven’t quite figured out what I want to make yet so have been tossing around some thoughts. Do I want to stick with something I know very thoroughly or do I want to spread out and pick up something new and go with it? I never have the chance to learn new things in my work as much so it might be nice to learn something at home.

Web (PHP/mySQL): Do I stay with something familiar and come up with a nice little project or application? Is there something that would be useful for people? Perhaps tie it in to some online games maybe like EVE online etc?

Desktop (C#/.NET): Maybe expand into something I’m not as familiar with? Go back to my roots with desktop programming? It would need to be something useful of course. I have barely scratched C# but have always wanted to and have always loved coding for the desktop.

XNA (C#/.NET): Again, C# but this time applying it to XDA and game programming for the Xbox 360 and PC. Fun right? At the very least Trey will think I’m a star lol.

Android (Java): How about some mobile phone apps? I LOVE my Android phone and making an app might be fun, would be cool if I could come up with something somewhat useful.

Hybrid (AIR/PHP/mySQL): Maybe mix some PHP and mySQL with a desktop app that runs in Adobe AIR? Mix what I work with daily with a touch of desktop programming in there as well. AIR can also work across several platforms.

Facebook App (PHP/mySQL/Java): What the heck…I could have built a damn Farmville!?! Maybe I should dive into the world of Facebook spam apps ;)

I’m just not sure what I want to dive into so am asking you, what should I look into? Have any ideas on things to create? I could always do something that corss over into a couple of realms. Something online that also can use the AIR app for example. Just some things to ponder. But I need some suggestions and have even tossed up a poll on the main page of this site.
