Finding the Right MMO

Blight Wolf mount in Fallen Earth

Having been playing MMOs for a good number of years now, I find myself still playing the game I started playing five years ago – World of Warcraft. While there are times I get bored and want to move on, I find it difficult to do so.

I have dabbled in some EVE Online and gave a handful of games Warhammer Online, Age of Conan, Lord of the Rings Online) a shot but none of them really stuck. I still often debate trying older ones again like Everquest 2, Vanguard, City of Heroes, and Star Wars Galaxy but I keep sticking with WoW.

Erin is currently playing the beta of Tales of Fantasy and seems to be enjoying it but the UI looks horrendous and I know I’ll bitch about it so avoid it. I did, however, download the trial of Fallen Earth this past weekend and gave that game a shot. I haven’t got to spend much time in it since I was healing from gout but so far the game actually seems quite decent. I wish the

Star Wars: The Old Republic

trial was longer than 10 days though as I have a feeling if I got to trial this one a bit more I’d bite and buy it.

A few times recently LOTRO has offered up their game and expansions all for $9.99 as well and I’ve been close to picking that deal up and trying LOTRO again because the community I found to be pretty good. I just wasn’t a huge fan of the UI. I am really anal when it comes to fonts and icons in game for some reason.

It seems as though I’m stuck waiting for Earthrise and Star Wars: The Old Republic which are both a ways off yet.

So guess where that leaves me? Yep. World of Warcraft and it’s expansion Cataclysm. *sigh*

I just need a game to come along that is well animated, runs well without a NASA super computer, has housing, and has other things to do than just rep/gear grind.
