Month in Review: May/June 2010
This month in review is actually two months in review. I have been pretty busy and have spent very little time online doing much other than playing some MMOs so haven’t written anything in a long time.
May
May saw us move into a new office at Platinum Synergy! We moved from our long time office into a nice unit we own and is very nice. It’s just a short drive from our previous office and the layout of it gives people more space to settle in. It’s a nice place!
In addition to the move, work continued on Home Office Pro 2. Most of the time was taking care of bugs and the user experience but so far things are going quite well with our new version. It’s certainly a lot nicer to work with – faster and cleaner code.
Still being bored with WoW at the start of the month I picked up a copy of Fallen Earth from Massively (thanks Massively!). Erin also picked up a copy and we tried getting into that game some. It was fairly short lived though as we just started to get busy with other things including crawling back into our WoW addiction. have to say though – Fallen Earth is a pretty nice game. Ran a little slow on my computer but I really liked the feel of the game and am sure I’ll renew at some point.
Erins mom was going to come up and visit us for a week before they both headed home but she got held up at the border. It’s a super long story so I won’t get into it but basically she got flustered and the border patrol said no to entry. Erin and I headed down there to straighten things up since her mom had just driven 12 hours to get there. They ended up jerking her around too and sent her home. Instead of a week long visit with her mom, they were both headed home.
Needless to say that has kind of consumed the majority of my time as of late. As a result I started cutting back my time on other things. I resigned from Youra Software Foundation as I was going to just not have time to deal with anything and still focus on work.
June
With Erin being sent home my mind was on that for the majority of my time and it was very hard to concentrate on anything including work. I ended up burning several personal days at work as I was dealing with that and also running around trying to get documents ready to apply for a passport for Trey so we can go visit Virginia.
Getting the paperwork for a passport was a pain in the ass since there was a custody agreement in place. First, I was told I needed his mom to sign the papers so I spent a day doing that. Then when I went back to turn those in, the final court order wasn’t good enough and I needed the previous ones so that’s where I’m at now. Waiting on my lawyers office to get them and they haven’t called me back in over a week – *sigh*
With all of this on the go I moved into a casual raider position in guild. Besides, had “beaten” this expansion anyway. Lich King was killed on both 10 and 25 man.
Since there was new found time, Erin and I moved a couple characters of ours to a server where her friend plays and we leveled our Horde characters to 80 and spent some time there. Nothing too exciting, even got into some ICC on our new 80s.
At the end of the month probably the most exciting thing happened – Trey had his grade eight graduation. He has finished his early years and is getting ready to start high school! He’s very much looking forward to the year starting and he has barely even started summer holidays!
