With the latest screw up on my HTC Magic from Rogers leaving 911 calls unavailable, Rogers disabled data on the phones until its users could patch the ROM to include the 911 fix and a little surprise.

After a large push from Rogers users to get their Android operated phones upgraded to Android 1.6, it now appears as though HTC will push out version of Android 2.1 for the HTC Magic by the middle of the year. Sadly for Dream users, that phone will not be able to – but Rogers is offering a solution.

With the announcement of the Android powered Nexus One from Google being made at the CES, Rogers customers wondered if the Nexus One would be a possible replacement for theirseverely outdated Android handsets. Now, WIND Mobile may just be stepping up to the plate.

Latest information suggests that there is a bit of a blame game going on between Rogers and HTC as to who is holding up any sort of Android 1.6 update to the HTC Magic and HTC Dream offered to Rogers customers.

I’ve been enjoying my HTC Magic phone powered by Android that I picked up from Rogers since early this summer. It was a tough choice for my first smart phone between Googles mobile operating system and going with an iPhone. Do I go for the proven iPhone and it’s massiveapp base or help support the open system and possibly create some apps myself.
